I have always thought about this famous quote as a personal message, but these past few months, I feel that this is one of the "quote appropriate" topic I can write about to ask each and everyone of you, your thoughts and how you are coping with the changes caused by COVID-19.
Being in a country that has not fully embraced work from home, has caused many changes in everyone’s daily routine. As a new manager in this industry, I am up for the challenges and learning experiences that this opportunity offers at the same time. This situation has taught me simple lessons in life that I can also use at work:
Be adaptable - while staying at home and on a Business-As-Usual mode, cultivate adaptability. I prefer pitching in person, but for the safety of our clients and candidates, I’m happy to make the changes (with video on!)
Embrace technology and be comfortable with it - it is not a bad idea to learn new things. Technology kept us informed and connected, not just through social media but for the ease of having team / company meetings and client sales calls.
Connect & reach out more - stay close while in distance by calling clients, asking how they are and how their businesses are doing, especially during these times and not just when the market is busy. A simple “how are you?” or ” “Take care!” goes a long way, after all, Japan is a relationship driven country.
Looking back, experiences toughen us up to build resilience and prepare for the next the next hardship.
