A top shipping company is seeking a Terminal Operation Manager! The position is responsible for the effective planning, execution and supervision of the duties associated with terminal operations and staff (ensuring efficient, safe, and productive operations for your assigned customers, terminal area, and cargo type). In addition, for the development and achievement of operational and financial goals and objectives, the development of management peers and holding union labor accountable for goals and objectives.
Effectively manages and directs the work activities of management, labor, foreman and other personnel; ensuring performance expectations and customer needs are met.
Develops short range business plans designed to achieve company goals and objectives while operating within approved fiscal budget.
Determines the amount of labor needed for each day and ensures labor is order appropriately for your assigned Department.
Makes decisions affecting overtime cost and general expenditures and ensures they are made in the best interest of our company and customers.
Determines additional staffing/labor needs and contacts stevedore in advance, ensuring cost-effective staffing and availability.
- Works closely with M&R/Terminal Departments to ensure the appropriate equipment allocation meets operational demands.
- Ensure that all company policies, procedures, and controls are followed and that required reports are completed accurately, submitted on time to appropriate staff, customers and other designated personnel, and that appropriate staff and labor have a full understanding of these procedure.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCES/ SKILLS
University Diploma or equivalent required.
BS/BA degree in Marine Administration, Transportation, Operations
Proficient in English (understanding, writing, speaking)
Minimum 5 years of experience in Terminal Operations or closely related field.
Experience with computerized operating systems.
Thorough knowledge or principles of terminal operations and cargo stowage.
Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
Ability and availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
A valid Driver’s License in good standing is required.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE/ SKILLS
- Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience working in management preferred.
Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability strongly desired.
