Job Description

Job title: Regional Costing Manager

Reporting to: Finance Director, APAC


  • New programme quotations:
    • Coordinate information among functions to enable sites to prepare timely and accurate costing calculations
    • Provide challenge to new programme costings for quotations to optimize quote:
      • Sourcing optimization (in-house vs outsource)
      • Operational optimization (cycle time improvements)
      • Relative costing analysis to existing products , including cost walk
      • 'Should cost' comparison
      • Apply 'Common sense' review of costings, rather than mechanical approach
  • Programme management:
    • Coordinate the update of programme margin tracking update in conjunction with the Programme Management function
    • Clearly understand cost walk between margin changes reported to programme management
    • Direct involvement into margin improvement initiatives with clear understanding of the impact of the initiatives
  • Make vs Buy analysis
    • Prepare detailed analysis of the cost-benefit impact of in-house vs outsourcing initiatives on a plant by plant basis
    • Translate this impact into the Profit and Loss view to clearly understand the presentational impact
    • Work with the functions to understand the capacity-demand and different cost implications of structuring the outsourcing initiative
  • Annual cost-rates update
    • Responsible for the planning, coordination and management of annual cost-rates update process
    • Analyse and understand the key factors causing cost-rates changes from year to year
    • Summarise impact of cost-rates changes by plant on competitiveness and inventory valuation
  • Other Ad hoc analysis, such as:
    • Cost impact of transferring production from plant to plant in line with the Hub-Spoke model
    • Cost impact of new initiatives such as new forge / plant
    • Benchmarking production cost / efficiencies between plants and understanding the reasons for the differences, with the aim of optimizing costs
  • Other roles
    • Standardisation of costing process and system use across the region
    • Develop detective controls and checklists to aid review of costings and avoid errors
    • Prepare presentations on costing and analysis as and when required
    • Primary contact to plant costing personnel for any costing issues
    • Provide coaching and continuous improvements to the costing process across the cluster
    • Input into Budget and 5 year strategic plan (where applicable)
    • Clear mapping of all programmes across the region, with the aim of benchmarking


  • 7 to 10 years of finance experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong product costing skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with a pro-active and problem-solving oriented attitude
  • Detail-oriented and meticulous
  • Vigilant in review of costing information
  • Ability to 'challenge the norm'
  • Able to draw succinct conclusions / summaries supported by facts
  • Ability to work across functions
  • Team-worker with good communication skills
  • English communication skills
  • Tokyo-based with 'as-required' travel to plants (Japan/ Korea / Thailand / Malaysia / Australia / Taiwan)
